Culture and attractions

Stevns, located by the sea offers abundant possibilities to experience the many attractions in the countryside. Stevns Klint is one of the most visited. The cliff rises 41 metres from the ocean and from the top you get a clear view of the Baltic Sea and on clear days even Sweden and the Øresund Bridge.

The Countryside around the peninsula of Stevns is very beautiful with charming villages, a picturesque harbour and Gjorslev Castle - Denmark oldest castle. In the market town of Store Heddinge, the pretty octagonal church of St. Katharina is definitely worth a visit.

During the last few years a group of dedicated citizens have been working on the restoration of an old military fort established in 1952. The fort was equipped with artillery and had several kilometres of hidden underground galleries and operating rooms. Some of these facilities have been converted to museum of cold war activities. The opening is scheduled to 2008 - see also http://www.stevnsfortet.dk
