IDC recently selected Denmark as the world’s most advanced IT nation, a top ranking to last for many years.

Denmark now ranks second to none among the most advanced countries in the world when it comes to exploiting the information technology, writes Børsen Business Daily.

This is shown in the latest analysis Information Society Index (ISI) from IDC. Denmark’s position in the world ranking list of IT nations is considered so strong that the leading position can hold several years ahead even if many nations’ IT development especially in The Far East is booming.

In the ranking Denmark is ahead of Sweden and Finland with the USA as number four. The index is prepared on fifteen different variables, representing four part indexes. However, Denmark is not hitting fully in these. In spite of this Denmark takes over the first ranking as a whole and according to the IT analysis company IDC’s Nordic General Manager Per Andersen, this is due to the fact that Denmark is balanced with regard to the four principal areas IT, Communications, the Internet and Education, which are the four columns that the information society is based on.

On the whole Denmark scores very well among the best ten countries in the world on IDC’s ranking list which includes measuring points such as for example the number of PCs in private households, the entire social investment in IT, consumption of software, the spread of broadband, consumption of telecom services, wireless Internet, number of mobile Internet users, the spread of e-commerce, the education level as well as absence of censorship and corruption.

In all these parameters Denmark reaches an index number of altogether 1079 points – the highest at all possible. Of the 53 countries included in the analysis only a few handfuls reach over one thousand points. Besides Denmark, these are Sweden, Finland, the USA, Great Britain, Holland, Switzerland, Canada, Norway and New Zealand, which belong to the élite within the knowledge society.
