Copenhagen wants to host the World Fair
30-06-2008

Society and living:

The Lord Mayor of Copenhagen, Ritt Bjerregaard, has announced that Copenhagen will try to be taken into consideration for the hosting of EXPO 2020, writes Berlingske.dk.

The large World Fair is held every five years. In 2010 it is to be held in Shanghai and in 2015 Milan will be host. After Milan the Lord Mayor of Copenhagen will try to get the World Fair to the Danish capital. If successful, it is the first time ever that one of the major world fairs are coming to the Danish capital.

At the Town Hall of Copenhagen the assessment is that Copenhagen will have good chances of getting the exhibition to the city because Copenhagen has many undeveloped harbour areas close to the centre where the exhibition can be held.

If Copenhagen becomes host to EXPO 2020, 25 million visitors are expected to come to Copenhagen during the four months the exhibition lasts. However, a number of U.S. cities and Manila in the Philippines may also be applying to the international bureau for the hosting.
