Novo Nordisk on its way with Blockbuster
08-07-2008

Life science industries:

According to a wide range of analysts already in 2012 Novo Nordisk’s promising diabetes drug Liraglutide will sell for at least USD 1 billion annually.

The Danish medicine flagship Novo Nordisk’s coming diabetes drug Liraglutide will already within a few years secure the company a leading position on the market for diabetes drugs and send billions home to the head office in Copenhagen.

A questionnaire which Berlingske Business has carried out among a number of analysts is showing that on the average the analysts estimate a Liraglutide sale of over one billion dollars as early as in 2012.

In this way Novo’s new drug may already three years after its launching be named blockbuster. A name used about medicine and drugs that have a turnover of more than 1 billion dollars annually.

With Liraglutide Novo Nordisk has the great advantage that they are on the market at least one year before a number of their arch rivals will be on the diabetes market.

Moreover, so far all data from the tests with Novo’s Liraglatide show that the drug is doing considerably better than the only product on the market up to now, namely Eli Lilly’s Byetta.
